Stop Supporting Puppy Mills! Puppy and Me, Barkworks Pet Stores and Respective City Councils: Stop Retail Sale of Cats and Dogs

The Issue

The above mentioned stores, Puppy and Me and Barkworks, should follow the lead of many other pet stores and stop selling puppies!
Puppy mill dogs are crammed into cages and forced to have litters upon litters of puppies. These puppies are taken away from their mothers at a very young age and sold to pet stores. Puppy mill dogs are malnourished, and after they cannot have any more litters, are either disposed of or sold at a cheap price. They are left in disgusting conditions and are not given proper veterinary care. These dogs have to suffer throughout all of their lives and are left to face the elements in their cramped wire cages. These dogs are used as breeding machines for puppy mills and pet stores that value their own profits and trick people into buying "the cute puppy in the window." Meanwhile, a large number of dogs are euthanized every year. Puppy mills are therefore indirectly contributing to these deaths as well.
Puppy and Me is supplied by some of the worst puppy mills in the nation. No quality breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store and have these dogs shipped across the country to pet stores. If you look on their site, they claim that their puppies are "adopted" and they charge and "adoption fee." This is a blatant lie and is a ploy to help them sell the puppies and boost their profits. Puppy and Me has been protested against but still continues the sale of puppies that come from puppy mills.
The Glendale City Council passed a ban on the retail sale of dogs and cats this past summer, and the Sherman Oaks City Council should follow suit.

Barkworks Pet Stores has also been protested against numerous times.  They have sold sick puppies that have come from puppy mills.  They have five locations: in Brea, Cerritos, Mission Viejo, Thousand Oaks and Riverside.  These stores must realize that selling puppies -especially ones from puppy mills- is inhumane.

Help fight the disease of puppy mills and stop these stores that pretend they care about the animals they are trying to sell! Puppy mills are inhumane and if the demand is no longer there, the supply will eventually stop as well.
