We would like a stand at St. Mary's stadium re-named after the saviour of our club, the late Markus Liebherr
The Issue
5 years ago Markus Liebherr saved our beloved football club, Southampton FC, from administration and snatched it from the brink of collapse. Markus' dream was always to take the club back to the Premier League, where it had been for so many years before financial trouble took hold. A 'five-year-plan' was put into place, outlining ambitions to get from the bottom of League 1 and back to the Premier League within this timeframe. In the end, it only took 4 years. The five year plan finished at the end of the last season with Saints finishing 8th in the Premier League.
Sadly, Markus died in 2010. He didn't have the chance to see out his plan and share the wonderful journey along the path on which he started us.
As we look forward to a new chapter in our journey, it feels only right that something is done to commemorate the man who allowed us to dream again. We understand that as daughter of Markus, Katharina Liebherr would not feel comfortable in proposing such a bold commemoration. But it is important that she understands how special he is to the fans and how much we appreciate the work that he did. As much as we are grateful to her for the continuation of his good work, for the club he loved so dearly.
So, it is the turn of the fans to outline how passionately such a memorial is wanted.
