SB 6239 allows couples, whether opposite-sex or same-sex, to "enjoy the freedom to marry on equal terms". The bill does not require religious leaders or institutions to perform marriages if they do not wish, and protects those groups from litigation. It also affords same-sex couples equal rights and protection under the law.

This is a step forward for Washington State, not only for same-sex couples who have been prohibited from marriage, but also for a more tolerant and inclusive society. Senator Hargrove, please support SB 6239. Thank you.
