Salford Council fulfill your pre-restoration pledge to fund Ordsall Hall staff and stop its partial closure

The Issue

We need Salford Council to fulfil the commitment they made to fund Ordsall Hall and keep it open to the public. This commitment was made to secure funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for Ordsall Hall's redevelopment in 2009. Salford Council intends to renege on this promise. We now need them to release just a fraction of what they originally promised; £25,000. This cut will reduce opening hours and community access by 20%.

The Hall is open to the community free of charge with a quarter of visitors from the hardest-to-reach areas who don't normally access culture and heritage services. It also provides a unique opportunity for local children to be inspired by learning outside of the classroom. This service is fully booked all year round.

“Dear Petitioner SUPPORT ORDSALL HALL ON LINE PETITION Salford City Council owns Ordsall Hall which is operated on our behalf by Salford Community Leisure (an Independent cooperative organisation). We have had 7,000 pupils (232) school visits since the Hall reopened in 2011 following its restoration and look forward to many more over the coming years. School visits, group visits and volunteering opportunities are not affected by the current proposal. As a result of the Government's austerity measures, there is an operating budget deficit of over £100,000 in the current year. The proposal for Ordsall Hall is to allow access for wedding parties and other suitable group bookings on Fridays. We expect 70 - 80 people to be at the Hall for a typical wedding. The average number of general visitors to the Hall on Fridays is less than 60. The proposed change will reduce costs and generate an additional income to support the operation of the Hall and its accessibility by the general public, throughout the year. In common with other historic houses all over the country, the Hall is closed on Saturdays, with opening limited on Sundays. This is for both conservation and operational reasons. We appreciate your concern for Ordsall Hall and for expressing your views through the online petition.
