Release Isa from Harmondsworth IRC Immediately

The Issue

Isa has been on hunger strike for almost three months. He is now dangerously ill. Last week a judge refused to release him from detention because the Home Office had issued him removal directions even though Isa is too sick to move from his mattress on the floor in the detention centre’s medical centre. Isa is also going blind and his entire body is shutting down.

The Home Office are refusing to release Isa because they believe he is deliberately starving himself for trivial reasons. Earlier this week they drew up an “End-of Life” plan with Isa and he has been assisted to write his will. The Home Office have hardened their stance towards hunger strikers in detention since releasing four men on medical grounds earlier this year. One judge used the justification that they did not want a result of 'copycat cases'.

Isa has been clear. He started his protest because the food he was being given in the detention centre exacerbated several related medical conditions he suffers from. Since then he has widened his protest to include the way he has been treated within the detention centre since beginning his protest.

He’s now demanding to be released so he can receive medical treatment in hospital without being treated as a criminal.

We demand Isa's rights be upheld and he not be allowed to die in favour of the UK's Immigration agenda. He is not at risk of disappearing as he will need to be hospitalised for months if released now. He is also at high risk of permenant organ damage and needs the medical treatment he was demanding upon arrival.

There is no logical reason why Isa should not be released immediately. He should not be allowed to die under these circumstances. Staff at Harmondsworth spoke with protesters outside on Saturday and said they would remove him on a stretcher via charter flight and it would not be hard.
