Did you know that twenty-four greyhounds just died and nearly 200 injuries were recently reported at Dubuque and Bluff's Run Greyhound Parks? Read the news in this weekend's Des Moines Register.

According to state records obtained by GREY2K USA, most of the injuries recorded were broken legs.Other disclosed injuries included sprains​, tears, a fractured skull and even a broken neck. Dude, Lilac, Geniusindisguise, Bucky and Rausch were all young greyhounds who deserved to live -- and to be loved -- like other dogs. But they never got that chance.

Thankfully, there is a solution! In each of the last three years, "decoupling" legislation has been introduced to remove the live racing mandate and to allow the tracks to close their kennels.

Under current law, the two facilities (now operating as Mystique Casino and Horseshoe Council Bluffs) must not only offer greyhound races to stay open but also must subsidize greyhound breeding with millions in casino profits. As a result of this bad public policy, greyhound racing is being artificially propped up even though actual interest is in steep decline.
