Reconsider the proposed closure of the Dawlish Natwest Branch and keep it open

The Issue

In June 2014 NatWest announced that the Dawlish branch will be closing in September 2014. NatWest highlighted that the number of customers using the Dawlish branch had dropped by 16% in the last few years and customers were increasingly use alternative ways of banking including phone, Post Office, mobile and online banking. NatWest have indicated there will be a mobile branch service as a replacement for customers which will stop every week in Dawlish. The closest alternative NatWest branch will be in Teignmouth.

Dawlish has a population of circa 13,000 (2011 Census) and is a well-known seaside resort. Over 37% of the Dawlish population are over 60.  For many who are elderly, or have disabilities, or are not computer literate, this branch is an essential service and community facility.  Its staff and their helpfulness are highly rated by its customers. Many local businesses and community organisations use NatWest’s services. Without this branch Natwest customers will have to travel to get a full branch service meaning extra journeys from Dawlish and discouraging people and businesses staying in the town.  Its closure will leave just one bank in the town.

NatWest’s customer charter includes the statement –

We put our customers' needs first

- We will listen and then help you find solutions that meet your needs"

We the undersigned, ask that NatWest put the needs of the people of Dawlish first and keep our local branch open. Thank you
