Pardon Alan Turing for "Gross Indecency"

Pardon Alan Turing for "Gross Indecency"
The Issue
Alan Turing was one of the most significant characters in the development of modern computer science. In addition to research and advancement of his field, he lead the project to crack the Nazi Enigma machine; significantly altering the course of the Second World War. He was also an active homosexual, and in 1952 was charged with "gross indecency" under the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885. He was sentenced to chemical castration, and two years later took his own life by cyanide. While it is far too late to change his fate, it is time for the Ministry of Justice to issue him a pardon and recognize the incredible contributions made by him to the British war effort and global field of computer science, as well as the contributions being made every day by the LGBTQ community.
