Mayor of London, Boris Johnson: Connect London - build the world's biggest cycle network by 2020

The Issue

Sustrans is urging Mayor Boris Johnson to build the world’s biggest cycle network by 2020 - 1000 km (600 miles) of cycling routes connecting every borough across Greater London.

The Mayor’s new cycling vision for London proposes a ‘Quietways’ network to deliver direct routes for cyclists on pleasant, low-traffic streets. This echoes our own vision for London. ‘Little Hollands’, particularly in outer London, are potentially a great way to get more people cycling.

Sustrans wants to see the Mayor’s plan rolled out on an even bigger scale than he’s proposed. We’re calling on Boris Johnson to build over 600 miles (1000 km) of ‘Quietways’ by 2020 to give London the world’s biggest cycle network.

With over half a million journeys already made by bike in London each day, the network will capitalise on the cycling boom and create a lasting Olympic legacy.

The London Cycle Network will:

- Make London one of the safest and most liveable cities in the world
- Improve the health of every Londoner, saving the NHS millions
- Dramatically reduce London's air and noise pollution

Your support will make all the difference. Act now.
