MPs are democratically elected by their constituents to stand up for them on issues of importance. Failure to represent the views of the people who elect an MP is a clear violation of democracy.

The people of Canterbury - the people who elect you - have made it quite clear that they value Kingsmead field as a community asset, a key venue for families to spend time together, for children to play and for animals to roam. The decision of Canterbury City Council to sell Kingsmead field for development will deny families, children and animals of the open space that they so desperately desire.

As Canterbury City Council fails to listen to and represent the views of local people I ask you, our Member of Parliament, the person that the people of Canterbury democratically elected to represent their views, to lobby the council to change their mind - to prove to the people of Canterbury that they were right to elect you and to show that democracy still rules in Canterbury.

It is about time that our MP stood up for the people who elect him. It is about time that our MP stood up for the people of Canterbury.
