J25 Bredbury Recycling Plant - Petition to close this site forever!

The Issue

1. Three major heavily polluting fires in 3 years. The current one still viscously smoking 7 days later.

2. Putrid rotting stench severely affecting homes and quality of life in the area. Doors and windows shut in the summer, children can't play outside.

3. Constant litter scattered around the streets from torn bales of rubbish. Even more apparent in winter with no greenery.

4. Planning permission for the recycling centre went through no consultation phase with local residents whatsoever. The result, a heavily polluting firm, storing mountains of waste in the middle of a long established residential and shopping area.

Following numerous warnings that have been issued, the Environment Agency has taken formal action against Junction 25 for not complying with regulations. The most recent 1 month ago suspending their license and not allowing any further waste to be taken in, until they clean up their act.

A month on and junction 25 has the biggest fire to date and pollutes the area for 7 days and counting. Living with pollution from the site has gone from bad, to unbearable.

The usual cycle is a slap on the wrist from the council and continue with operations again. Enough is enough, this time they mustn't be allowed to rebuild the burnt out shell that now remains.
