Stop Charging food banks full business rates for occupying council owned properties.

The Issue

Food banks are now providing an essential service where the government both locally and nationally are failing to provide an adequate safety net for the people of Glasgow.

These banks are mostly run by volunteers and funded by public and business donations.

Glasgow City Council should be playing their part, if not  by eliminating the need for food banks in the first place then at least not making the job more difficult by charging business rental rates on what would most likely otherwise empty properties.

We call on our elected representatives to ensure that the shameful practice of charging food banks is stopped and that premises are donated so that all other donations can be effectively used to fight the effects of poverty.
