David Campos for Mayor of SF!
David Campos for Mayor of SF!
The Issue
OVERVIEW
San Francisco has been a sanctuary city since 1989, but now finds itself at a precarious crossroads in a fight for its soul. Following ten years of progressive leadership on the Board, progressive politics in San Francisco has been dealt a serious blow. Recent machinations involving a backroom deal to appoint the interim mayor and committee assignments on the Board of Supervisors suggest that downtown corporate interests are the real powerbrokers now. However, we're not down for the count just yet. With the upcoming election in November, progressives have the opportunity to seize the ball and elect a strong progressive as mayor.
It's not often that someone comes along who displays that rare combination of qualities that makes him a serious contender. Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, former supervisor from SF’s District 9, recognized this when he endorsed Campos to be his replacement on the SF Board of Supervisors in 2008. In a fiery endorsement speech, Ammiano indicated that Campos was the only candidate with the work ethic, wisdom, integrity, compassion and dedication that it takes to win and serve with distinction.
During his tenure on the Board of Supervisors, Campos has demonstrated his ability to bring people together to work for the common good. He has gained the respect of moderates like Scott Weiner, who said, "While I have not agreed with Supervisor Campos on every position he has taken, I think he has been a very active and engaged and hardworking supervisor and I respect him."
Laura Spanjian, who also served with Campos on the DCCC says, "He is one of the hardest working members of the Board of Supervisors. He really walks the walk."
Throughout his life of service, David Campos has championed the most vulnerable by working to desegregate the public school system, pushing for real and meaningful police reform and taking courageous stands for immigrant rights and due process of law. As a strong proponent of transparency in government, Campos maintains an open-door policy towards his constituents.
We need a mayor like David Campos who will stand up for the most vulnerable and ensure that city government is open and accessible to all. That man is David Campos!
Please join me in signing this petition to encourage David Campos to run for mayor of San Francisco in 2011. Thank you.
