Help us adopt! Allow recommended families to adopt.
The Issue
Sign this and help give a child a loving home today.
My husband and I want to adopt and have officially been recommended as ‘suitable to adopt’. Yet we are being refused. This is the case for other ready, willing and able adopters. Please help us.
After a rigorous and time-consuming formal process conducted through the Independent Review Mechanism (IRM)*, my husband and I gained a recommendation as ‘suitable to adopt’. We believe we should therefore be provided with a route to adopt.
Last year, 6,800 children were waiting to be adopted. There are no legal or moral reason why Mark and I cannot adopt. After all, IRM is convinced of our value as potential adopters.
So why haven’t we adopted?
Because our Local Authority have refused to accept our IRM* recommendation. Therefore the cost of their 18-month assessment of our case (£2,500 of public money paid to the IRM*) is going to waste. A child waiting in care is currently being denied a loving family.
The Prime Minister said in March 2012, “This government is going to tear down the barriers that stop good, caring potential adoptive parents from giving a home to children who so desperately need one.”
Mark and I are asking the Prime Minister to keep his word.
And we are asking for you to help us and many other capable, willing adoptive parents.
