Lift The Pit Bull Ban in Reynoldsburg

The Issue

Many humane societies face problems with pit bulls bans, finding homes for them being one such problem. In states where bans are local, it makes it more difficult for human societies to find homes especially with the negative press and inaccurate view of pit bulls today.

As reported by the ASPCA:

Genetically, pit bulls were bred to fight, however that doesn't mean that pit bulls can't be around other dogs, that they're innately aggressive, and will always seek to do other animals and even people harm. Genetically, it means that it is easier to train a pitbull to fight other dogs.

Just because fighting is historically within the dog's genes, does not mean they are not friendly. If they are raised with early socialization with all breeds of dogs, animals, and people they can be just as friendly as any other dog.

Pit bulls were often known to be extremely loyal to their owners and in early American history, they were bred to be loyal and trustworthy to their masters. Any dog that would exhibit aggression towards their masters were culled.

Nowadays, the negative press is based on the overwhelming number of breeders who choose to raise pit bull pups to be aggressive and fighters without a good nature towards people either. This is despite the fact that well-bred, well-socialized, and well-trained pit bulls can and are very gentle-natured creatures and an ideal pet for any family so long as the extra effort to socialize it properly, is put in.

This issue is important not only to me but countless others who feel that it is not right to unjustly blame the victim of abuse and condemn it's entire breed for the actions of their owners. Such owners who are not afraid of the enforcement of the law when they know they can get any breed of dog just as easily, and continue on this path of abuse and criminal cruelty.
