Provide ongoing funding for YI at CAS Program.

The Issue

The Youth Interns at CAS Program is a youth employment initiative that enables youth interns to gain valuable work experience and develop their people skills, communication skills, and time management skills. These skills are highly valued in the labour force. The CAS program targets citizens without ready high speed access to computers and little or no formal training on using computers. The Youth Interns offer a practical way for many of our rural citizens to cross the digital divide. To enable economic recovery and access to online government services in their home community CAS helps specific groups - youth, seniors, new Canadians and the unemployed. Searching and applying for a job on the Internet and acquiring new computer skills and/or updating current computer skills opens the door to meaningful employment. Many Canadians rely on the CAS Program for universal access to quality training on computers and other digital devices used in today's society. Long term, sustainable funding for the YI at CAS Program would continue to promote a stronger Canadian labour force.
