Close Mauch's Petstore for supporting puppy mills and animal cruelty

The Issue

Mauch's Pet Superstore has been in business here in Oshawa for over a decade. In this time they have sold countless ill and dying animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, mice, rats, and reptiles, and it's time that they face the consequences. If anyone has been in this store, they know the putrid stench that comes from it. Everyone who's been here should also remember the sad faces on their poor "products", standing in their own urine and feces, being without water or food for long periods of time, looking ill and dehydrated, and just being overall uncared for. If this weren't bad enough, they have insects who are not properly contained and basically free to roam around the store (and even into other properties adjacent to it). Not only is this a health code violation, but it's pure animal abuse and it needs to stop. Please sign this petition so that we can take our concerns to city hall and let them know the volume at which this store has enraged our community. Speak for those who can't speak for themselves - save the animals.

Here are a few reviews i pulled from the web

A Google Userreviewed a year agoOverall Poor to fairYuck! No superness here only villains in my opinion. I was in today to check out the reptiles and what a horrific site. hardly a hide to be seen, uncleaned tanks, old food & hopeless stares from the captives inside. Nothing was labeled & had to guess at the breeds. when I asked what was what the shock that I did not recognize some simple species.....not due to never seeing them before it was due to malnutrition and lack of husbandry. There were lots of dogs here as well, almost too many. I felt sorry for them being here also. being an owner of pure breed dogs as well, I know the normal practices of local and non local breeders and most "pure breed" or quality dogs breeders would not allow their animals to be in this kind of conditions. for shame I bet this store was originally started with the love of animals in its intent and now it seems like its for the love of money.

A Google Userreviewed a year agoOverall Poor to fairBought a Bernese Mountain Dog from there, had some terminal illness. Vet told me they contract this from unclean kennels or puppy mills. Cost me lots in vet bills just to tell me to bring it back and try and get my money back because it will die, which I did and buddy told me it died after being hooked up to IV's and such .. worst experience of my life and worst pet store ever .. Thought it would be shut down by now .. Ridiculous .. Old guy just pushed off these animals like they are merchandise .. Pathetic ... AND THE CRAZY PART IS ... Right above all this it promotes puppy mills .. just scroll up the page !! HOW IS THIS HAPPENING STILL !?!? ..

A Google Userreviewed a year agoOverall Poor to fairMyself and other veterinary professionals are saddened by the fact that this appalling store is still in business. After years of watching them, the animals are still not cared for properly and they are often filthy. They have recieved a number of warnings and have almost been shut down, but usually clean up their act just long enough to pass inspection. I don't know if it's ignorance or neglect, but regardless, ANIMALS ARE NOT TREATED WELL HERE. PLEASE do not buy from here. If you want a pet, look up reputable breeders in your area, or go to the humane society. You will very likely have less problems in the long run! Remember "rescuing" an animal from a bad pet store may infect your healthy pets at home. If you want to help, please report any suspect cruelty to the human society.

A Google Userreviewed 2 years agoOverall Poor to fairAs stated by the other 2 reviewers, the animals are SICK. Mauch's claim their puppies come from local reputable breeders. You tell me what kind of reputable breeder would put a tattoo on a new puppy, that looks like someone just took a pen and wrote on it's tummy M#3 or F#2, whatever. Also, I don't think Quebec could be classified as local. I got a puppy there, I knew it was unwise, but let my heart get the better of me. He had Giardia, which comes from unclean conditions. They are parasites and if severe can actually kill the animal. They are also sometimes hard to get rid of. Medicine and rechecks can add up to alot of $$$,not to mention that they overcharge for these poorly bred dogs. The place stinks and I really wish someone would shut them down.

A Google Userreviewed 2 years agoOverall Poor to fairI bought 2 female rats in a span of a week. I realized the first one I bought had pneumonia (or something similar) and returned her the next day. When I brought my second one home, she had laboured breathing and lethargy for a few days and then died. I will never shop at this store again and do not recommend anyone else to, either.

PUPPY MILL STORE January 2, 2012By: ANIMALLOVER3Do not support this store or you are supporting puppy mills!!!!!

REPORT TO THE SPCA July 17, 2011By: NON-MEMBERThere has been a report made to the Durham SPCA. The treatment of animals here is appauling. Hope this store is shut down for good.

NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN July 17, 2011By: NON-MEMBERThe conditions of this pet store are absolutely terrible. I don't care if you're an independent pet store, there is no excuse to be keeping your puppies laying in their own filth without water or food, not to mention selling extremely ill rodents and reptiles. I can't count how many horror stories I've heard about this place, and I hope something gets done about it soon.

HORRIBLE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS July 5, 2011By: JOEOSHAWAI know the conditions of this store are horrible. They get investigated and clean up there act tong enough to stay in business and go back to their old ways. They get friends and family to give them good reviews but please as hard as it is do not buy anything from these people. The owners need to be put in jail for what they do to animals. Hopefully the city of Oshawa smartens up and gets rid of this place for good.

MADE ME CRY (FEB 2011) February 13, 2011By: ASHLEYJRmy Fiance and I went into this pet store a couple days ago, first of all when u walk in the door the smell was unbearable not hygienic at all. i understand animals go to the washroom but this was intolerable i would not bring a child in their. my fiance and i noticed right away the cages were very small and had so many puppes in each one, they were made out of wood and was very worn down. they had real glass on each of the cages and the dogs were jumping up against them i could only imagine what would happen if they broke. I felt so bad for these poor animals their cages were so filthy inside. i managed to ask to a hold a tiny male boxer puppy and noticed right away this horrible looking tattoo on its stomache that said L 6 ALL scribbled it looked like someone tattood him with a home tattooing machine. right then and there i wanted to buy every single puppy in the place but of course i couldn't. my fiance and i left and i cried. i want to do something about this no animal should have to live in a state like that. we are going to the humaine society to file a complaint tomorrow and im going to do everything in my power to help those poor animals. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND EVERYONE WORKING THERE SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE IN A DIRTY 3X4 CAGE CROWDED WITH FECIES everywhere. please do not buy a dog there and if at all possible go in and see how bad it is and make a complaint for yourself we need to help these animals.

For more reviews visit these links and notice that it is almost as if someone is keeping an eye on the reviews because right after every bad review someone probably the owners posts a positive comment which i think is completely impossible after other completely terrible horrific reviews after reviews stating their were sick animals walking in feces how could anyone give it a positive five star review my guess is this place is hiding something and i became suspicious of it ever since i first looked at their web page.

More reviews.
