People in Ontario cannot afford to pay 40% more to heat our homes. 

The multi-billion dollar companies that supply gas to Ontarians claim to be losing money because of a cold winter. Rather than letting big oil companies lose some of their profits, the Ontario Energy Board has agreed to let Enbridge and Union Gas hike their rates by 40%. This will increase the average gas bill in Ontario $40/month.  We should not be forced to pay to make companies like Enbridge and Union Gas richer.

This hike affects nearly everyone in Ontario. Tenants already paying rent they can barely afford or homeowners struggling to make their mortgage payments. Gas companies have a monopoly on natural gas, so we don’t have the option of switching to a more affordable option. We rely on the OEB to protect us from companies like Enbridge and Union. 

The rate hike must immediately be reversed. Oil companies have enough money, people in Ontario do not.
