Metrotown is a vibrant area of South Burnaby that is home to myriad businesses, community spaces, both rental and owned homes and beautiful Central Park. Over the last couple of years, there has been an alarming increase in high rise construction in the area. Most alarming, however, is the growing heights of these new developments.

Several new towers being constructed one Metrotown area are being allowed to be built nearly 50 stories in height. This is nearly twice the height of existing buildings in the neighbourhood. The redevelopment of the Station Square area of Metrotown is slated to include 5 towers of varying height between 35-57 stories. These buildings will dwarf anything else in the area and will create untold additional traffic, shopping and transit congestion for an already densely-populated area.

The City of Burnaby needs to hear from actual area residents that we do not want to become another downtown and we want to maintain a good balance of density and space in our city. Redevelopment is not the problem - the excessive height of these new projects is.
