Support the freedom of speech in Australia allowing us to call our event Tranny Bingo. As part of the extended Trans* community we do not use this word as a slur and reject your claims that we do.

The issue

We do not use the word Tranny as a slur.  We are concerned by the Dangers of Over policing Language.  We want to be able to continue to use the word Tranny when naming our event Tranny Bingo.  This argument relates to the usage of the word in Australia and not overseas.

Words from norrie mAy-welby

Tranny is a term that has been proudly used since at least 1996, with the Trany Pride Ball and the Trany Pride float in the Mardi Gras Parade. It was popular with the Sydney show queen scene, where cross dressers, or transvestites, worked alongside pre, post and non-op transsexuals, and the lines between us were blurred, or at least irrelevant in our common transgression of gender/sex expectations. No one should be forced to wear a label they don't like, and not every trans person is happy to be called even that, let alone a tranny, but some trans people are happy to claim the term tranny, and should not be prevented from using their label of choice just to avoid offending those who choose to take offense, and who seek to police other people's gender/sex labels.
