The Issue

Have you ever worked in a group home? The workers are some of the most skilled human service professionals you will ever meet. Have you been cared for by a social worker, a physiotherapist or a nurse? You know their professionalism and commitment to patient care. These are only some the 35,000 workers Bill 37 effects.

Bill 37 is  fundamentally unfair. It  is the Nova Scotia Liberal government's essential service legislation. It permanently takes away the rights of health care workers. It puts the majority of power in management's  hands by drastically restricting workers' right to strike- reducing the ability of health care workers  to negotiate safe working conditions and salary. Bill 37 aims to silence the voices of health care workers. We are the people who care for you.

Bill 37 will not only hurt all workers, but essential service legislation will prolong labour disputes. In  2007, the NS Conservative government studied and rejected essential service legislation for that very reason. It is bad public policy.

Please speak out on behalf of Nova Scotia health care workers. We are your neighbours, your friends and we care for you. We need you to care for us.
