The Issue
ANYONE IS WELCOME TO SIGN THIS PETITION, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A BC RESIDENT
Recently, Mercy for Animals Canada filmed horrible abuse of dairy cows at Chilliwack Cattle Sales, the largest dairy farm in Canada, who supplies milk to Saputo. The BC SPCA recommended animal cruelty charges against the 8 employees, who have since been fired, but this cruelty might have been prevented.
According to the BC SPCA, "the Canadian Codes of Practice for the care and handling of farm animals have yet to be adopted into B.C. law as in some other provinces. Animal protection legislation in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and PEI has adopted the national Codes of Practice for farm animals to define minimum acceptable standards in those provinces.” We want the same for British Columbia!!!
The Petition:
In light of the recent abuses filmed by Mercy for Animals Canada at Chilliwack Cattle Sales dairy farm in Chilliwack, British Columbia, and other similar atrocities filmed at other types of farming operations, we the undersigned respectfully request that the Canadian Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Farm Animals be incorporated into British Columbia legislation.
***PLEASE ALSO TAKE THESE OTHER ACTIONS WHICH WILL SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE PETITION'S LIKELIHOOD OF SUCCESS***
1) Write, e-mail, and/or tweet your MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) to ask that they support the incorporation of the Codes of Practice for the Care and Handling of Farm Animals into BC Legislation.
