Ban the Production of Eggs in Battery Cages

The Issue

Footage released by Mercy for Animals Canada (and broadcast by W5 and published by the Globe and Mail) shows the typical life for hens producing eggs in Canada. They are crowded in battery cages, chicks are violently smashed against hard surfaces by workers and then thrown into garbage bags, chicks are covered in feces and dead hens are left to rot cages. Chickens are animals that deserve respect and to live a life free of cruelty.

The battery cages routinely used by egg farmers in Canada are so inhumane they have been banned by the European Union, Switzerland, New Zealand, and the states of California and Michigan.
