Extend the hours of the Mistissini Post Office to reflect the business hours of our community (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM). To create a minimum of one full-time position and ideally two full-time positions.
The Issue
The registered population, according to data by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, of Mistissini is 4,567 [1]. It should be noted that we also have a population that is growing faster than the rest of Canada; census data indicates a 12% growth rate compared to the 1.1% [2] for the rest of the country (2000-2010). The above indicates that the community currently requires extended services and that this need is likely to continue to grow.
We feel that, considering the remoteness of the community, which causes an increased reliance on postal services, that the hours of operation need to be extended. In addition, because the hours of operation need to be extended, a full-time position needs to be created.
If you, as an individual or as a business, have experienced difficulty, because of the limited service of the Mistissini Post Office, we ask the you please support this petition. Let's stop the unnecessary delays and ask for a level of service that reflects the size of our community.
