Please use $10M of the forecast $14.1M Budget Surplus to purchase Springvale Rd Primary School site for future community and sport use.

The issue

The Nunawading Vikings Basketball Club is a junior domestic basketball club.
Our philosophy is simple.  "Basketball for everyone".

We strongly believe that if the Springvale Road Primary School Site is sold off to developers, an opportunity is lost forever.

As houses get demolished and high rise apartments increase so will the population in our city.

The demand for public land for recreational use will also increase.

In its own budget the City of Whitehorse has forecast a surplus of $14.1 Million for the 2014/15 financial year.  This land is available at a price of approximately $10 Million. (Reports of a sale price of $15 Million are wrong)

The land is large enough to house a 5 court stadium and ample parking and backs on to an under-utilised reserve.

Our club rents a stadium from the city of Whitehorse at Slater Reserve.  It is a two court stadium.  We are a club with well over 100 teams made up of approximately 1000 members.  Two courts, 1000 members.  We are a not for profit club, so we cannot build our own courts. These courts are also shared by another basketball club and a netball club too. Hard to imagine all those people using a two court stadium isn't it?

I ask for your support not for my club alone, we are one of many basketball clubs who require more courts.  The shortage is not limited to Basketball. I personally have spoken with Netball, Indoor Soccer and Table Tennis clubs who are also in desperate need of facilities.

The City Of Whitehorse can purchase this land, this year, and still have a budget surplus.  Please sign this petition and let your Councillors know that you would like them to purchase this land for future community use.
Without hearing your voice, they will never know.

If you would like to see this public land sold off to developers, and see high-rise apartments built on it, then feel free to disregard this campaign.
After all, your children don't need sporting activities, they are just as happy sitting alone in the loungeroom playing their video games right?
