Please honour the pledge you made to west Auckland communities by voting to support a Living Wage for Auckland Council employees.
The issue
My name is Dr Mels Barton. I am the Chair of the Titirangi Ratepayers and Residents Association. I represent the views of many residents of West Auckland.
I attended a candidate forum at the Tuvalu Christian Church and I heard community leaders speak about why a Living Wage was important for our community.
I was witness to your verbal commitment to support a Living Wage for Auckland Council directly employed and contracted workers. You were asked in front of us if you supported the following resolution:
I support Auckland becoming a Living Wage Council by paying a Living Wage to directly employed staff and workers employed by contractors delivering services on a regular and on-going basis
You confirmed your support for the resolution in front of 120 community representatives.
The Living Wage Campaign promoted you as a Living Wage supporter and now I ask you to honour your commitment to us as our representative in West Auckland.
On December 19 you may be asked to vote to support the Living Wage at a Council meeting and we believe as a councillor with integrity you will honour your word.
