stop aerial 1080 drops

The issue

for a number of reasons, save our environment and birds, and ourselves from drinking water that has the poison pellets dropped in our rivers. It is insane that the AHB want to drop more of this stuff! and in areas that are easily accessed on foot by ground control operators who have passed monitor tests for opossums. 1080 is known to affect everything in the food chain, even the trees take it up through the root systems. It kills native birds as they eat dead opossums deer e.t.c. that lie on the ground. We are one of a very few countries left that are still using 1080, It has been banned everywhere else. There are plenty of alternative options available that are already in use eg ground operators doing bait lines & traps/bait stations e.t.c that are successfully doing there bit to keep the predator numbers down, as well as keeping them in well paid employment (some take the fur off the opossums - currently worth $135/kg) the AHB dream of NZ being pest free is just that-a dream, reality is you,ll never get the last pest, but at least realistically you can manage them using bait stations in ground control operations, cheaper and focusses on the target pests preferable to aerially dropping poison. We need to act now before our native bushlands, waterways and wildlife are gone forever.
