The Red and Black Bloc (RBB) and the Australian Football league.: Keep the Passion, Ditch the Soccer. Lets get the RBB in the AFL!
The issue
This petition calls on the supporters of the West Sydney Wanderers, the Red and Black Block (RBB) to switch codes and give AFL a go. The AFL should do what ever is necessary for that to happen.
To the RBB- You guys are great. The sheer passion and excitement that you bring to your games, week in week out, has been an inspiration. No one doubts the deep connection and commitment you have for your club and for the Western Sydney community. But while no one questions your passion, some of us do question your choice of sport.
I for one would probably be on the Wanderers bandwagon if not for one small detail. Soccer. The sport is a festival of the mundane. It is a soul destroying slow and pointless exercise. Who can actually get excited about watching a dozen blokes faffing about on a paddock for 90 minutes while nothing happens. The offside rule- what purpose does that play? It actually just bans anything mildly interesting from happening. The boring is built into the rules of the game. I'm not having a go, but maybe you could experiment with some other options?
All I'm saying is that if you go that crazy over the round ball, you will flip your shit when you watch the real footy. Come check out the AFL, give the Giants a go. Things actually happen. And happen regularly. Plus it goes for a bit longer, and theres 3 breaks so more opportunities to head down to the bar for a refill. Its gives you something to do over winter, and you can come down to Melbourne a couple of times a year to rip shit on Collingwood fans. We'll negotiate some deal, get the league to put on a couple of kegs or something, it'll be a grand old time.
To the AFL- Hear me out. I get that ten thousand psychotic Westies isn't part of the marketing plan for the league. And i can see that Andrew Demetriou would probably be shitting himself, but lets think about it. These guys are exactly what a new club needs. They are staunch. They just sent a small army to fucking *Gosford* to watch a game. In the rain. And the trains weren't running so theres probably a heap of the crazy bastards that were stuck in Parramatta. A thousand of them went down to Melbourne to watch the game, i mean shit Port or Freo struggle to get those sort of numbers traveling. The RBB would give a hell of a basis to build the Giants around.
So now that Izzy Folau has buggered off to go play the game for the men without necks, why not put those resources in just recruiting the RBB en mass. Screw going for a marquee player, lets just go strait for the marquee fans. I dunno how to do it, maybe we'd need to let them rip a few flares before the game. Maybe we'd have to let Shinji Ono play in the forward pocket. Maybe we'd have to get Sheedy to make up a whole shitload of falafel for the home games. I don't care how you do it, but get on the phone to the RBB and get them singing for the wande... er... the Giants.
