A small estuary such as Lake Illawarra  (36 km.2) cannot sustain the netting onslaught of thirty four (34) commercial fishing licence holders in the short or long term.

The environmental and economic stakes that this lake brings to the Illawarra are immeasurable, however, the activities of an extremely large number of commercial fishermen does not present a sustainable future for Lake Illawarra and the local environs   

The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to - utilise the Recreational Fishing Fund and buy back existing commercial fishing licence/permits from Lake Illawarra and the adjoining coastal waters,  including Perkins Beach (Windang NSW 2528)
