To re-open the Mid North and Barossa Railway Lines for Passenger Services

To re-open the Mid North and Barossa Railway Lines for Passenger Services

The issue

To the Honourable, the Members of the House of Assembly in Parliament Assembled.

This Petition of the undersigned residents of South Australia showeth that:

South Australia’s most important country passenger rail services, the Barossa and Mid North Railway Lines, should be reopened to promote important tourism and passenger rail links to the State’s Barossa Valley and Mid North.

The Government of South Australia must ensure the preservation of these vital rail links, which would when reopened, become an important tourism draw card, promoting South Australia, and will also provide valuable rail services to and from the regional communities in the Barossa Valley such as Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Lyndoch, and Mid North towns such as Burra, Riverton, Kapunda, Balaklava, Hamley Bridge and Roseworthy, as well as surrounding environs such as the Clare Valley. This would generate new, and further enhance important employment opportunities in and around the regions.

On Monday 24th February, The Advertiser published the results of an Election Survey. In the “Transport Questions” section on Page 6, Question 5 was “Should a Country Passenger train network be reintroduced?” with 79.8% of the respondents of South Australia agreed that it should.

Your Petitioners therefore pray that your Honorable House will:

Reopen these important passenger & freight railway links for the future growth and development in the Mid North and Barossa regions of South Australia.
