Castlemaine Steiner School has been an educational, cultural, spiritual and social mecca in Castlemaine for 25 years, but it is now being threatened by the uninformed decision of NBN Co technocrats to build a 55 m microwave tower less than 500 metres from the school.

“Any tower in the close vicinity of any Steiner school throughout the world would have a severe detrimental effect on enrolments” Tracey Puckeridge, the Chief Executive Officer of Steiner Schools Australia, has stated in a submission to the NBN Co.

Unfortunately the NBN Co has ignored the submissions from Steiner Education Australia, the Mt Alexander Shire Council and the School, documenting how the tower is antithetical to Steiner values and pedagogy, is damaging to the Steiner brand, and will result in economic loss to the school and the Shire.

We need the new Federal Minister of Communications Malcolm Turnbull to direct the NBN Co to respond properly to the submissions from the school and for the greater good of the community relocate the tower.
