Currently the indicative design for the East-West Link has the motorway emerging in at least one area within Royal Park and continuing as an elevated road across almost one third of the park, destroying world class wetlands and devaluing Melbourne's largest inner urban parkland.This park is important for Melbourne as a recreational and open space area and is adjacent to Melbourne Zoo.

An elevated motorway section would create a physical and noise barrier and prevent use of the park by the community. Much of the amenity for park use will be lost if the project proceeds in it's current form.

The Royal Park Wetland (Trin Warren Tam-Boore) was developed as part of the Commonwealth Games Village redevelopment and currently purifies stormwater that is then used for watering inner city street trees.

We are calling on the Victorian Government to instruct the Linking Melbourne Authority that no section of the East-West Link should be above ground within Royal Park.
