Make women's safety a man's issue too & display duty of care towards models in men's magazines. Give public apology/retraction of sexually violent & abusive false representations.
I was featured in a national men's magazine as a photographic model & also interviewed as part of the feature. During the interview I shared that I'm actually not a party girl, I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke and I'm also celibate too.
The men's magazine proceeded to misrepresent my interview & made abusive false representations about me, which is a form of sexual violence against women. It was a form of sexual harassment, a form of gender based discrimination & a form of violence against women. The unethical behaviour of this particular mens magazine promotes a rape culture against women who have body confidence.
The men's magazine gave me a private apology via email which is a cop out. The abuse of the false quote/false representations were printed in the magazine, so the apology/retraction should also be printed in the magazine too.
The whole purpose of the interview was for my personal answers to be used in conjunction with my photos, that was how I was told my photos would be presented. But instead of featuring my personal answers, they instead attached an abusive false quote in a big huge heading over one of my photos. It was a blatant misrepresentation.
This particular men's magazine has displayed a male abuse of power & I would like to make women's safety a man's issue too by sharing this petition.
I am a supporter of the White Ribbon Campaign, which aims to change attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate men's violence against women.
White Ribbon oath: I swear never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women this is my oath.
As a society we need to rise to repudiate violence against women and stop promoting a rape culture. Women can have both body confidence and boundaries. Women deserve to be safe regardless of whether they are wearing a bikini or wearing an eskimo suit. ~ Juliana Cameron.
