Overturn the ban on blood donation from gay men

Overturn the ban on blood donation from gay men
The issue
Currently the Australian Red Cross denies gay men the right to donate blood if they’ve had sex in the last 12 months, with or without a condom. This policy is discrimination based on the outdated myth that HIV AIDS was an exclusively gay disease.
This petition is calling on the Australian Red Cross to end this discrimination and employ an approach that treats everyone equally. Assessment should be made on a case by case basis, rather than the current approach of using a blanket ban over an entire section of the community.
Isn't the dire shortage of blood donors across the country more reason to end this discrimination? Donation NOT Discrimination!
