The issue

Did you know that popcorn at the cinema is loaded with saturated fat*? I didn't until I researched it last week. If, like me, you're worried about cholesterol you should avoid it, or at least know the nutritional values when you buy it.

According to Calorie King, a small size popcorn in Australian cinemas contains an average of 9g of fat per 36g serve, of which 5.5g is saturated fat. This is a whopping 28% of the average adult recommended daily intake of saturated fat.

A large popcorn is listed as three times these values – close to 90% of an average adult's daily saturated fat.

NSW food laws require larger fast food and snack food chains (standard food outlets) to display nutrition information at the point of sale.Cinemas are not currently counted as standard food outlets and don't have to tell customers what's in their food.

Please support this petition to ask cinemas to publish nutritional info for their snack foods and drinks at point of sale voluntarily. If they refuse we will use the support to try to persuade the government to add cinemas to the mandatory list.
