Ask him to withdraw all permits to kill jaguars and all permits to capture jaguars - until and unless a recovery plan is created that calls for capture as a necessary recovery tool. Send your letter today and we'll hand deliver your message tomorrow.

Subject:
Protect and Recover American Jaguars
The two-time capture and killing of a jaguar in Arizona calls for immediate protection for any surviving jaguars, as well as protecting their habitats and developing a science-based recovery plan.
I am saddened that the life of such a rare wild animal — possibly the last of his kind in our country — ended not in his home of 15 years, but euthanized by humans in a Phoenix, Arizona zoo after enduring the stress of repeated captures. Please revoke the existing permit issued by the Bush administration’s Interior Department to capture another jaguar, and don’t issue any more such permits until a recovery team has been formed and a recovery plan that governs research and protection has been developed. A recovery plan will ensure that behavioral and habitat information from capturing and radio-collaring jaguars will help recover jaguars and protect their homes.
Recovery plans are roadmaps for bringing endangered species from the brink of extinction to a secure existence. For jaguars, that means more than just a handful of animals in a tiny portion of their original range. Please reverse the Bush administration’s decision not to prepare a recovery plan or designate critical habitat.
Please also restore consideration of the environmental impacts of constructing the border wall, which will cut off U.S. jaguars from those in Mexico, as well as block passage for hundreds of other animals.
Your decision now, Mr. Secretary, can protect jaguars and ensure their future in the United States – and if you act before March 23 you can cut short a conservationists’ lawsuit over an anti-jaguar policy that the Obama administration would never have promulgated and should not have to defend.
