The Shelter, Land and Urban (SLUM) Assistance Act (H.R. 1702) would authorize assistance for affordable housing and sustainable urban development in developing countries.  More specifically, it's goal is to establish and implement, as a major objective of United States overseas development assistance strategy, particularly in developing countries, programs that: 1) foster improved urban management, 2) foster sustainable urban development, 3) increase the security of real property tenure, and 4) expand access to basic shelter, affordable urban housing, and essential urban services and infrastructure.
