STOP THE CARBON LOBBY
Petition Text
I support President Obama's plan to take on global warming. His plan will cap carbon pollution and make the big polluters pay $650 billion over the next 10 years, so we can promote clean energy and green jobs and invest in our families and our future. I support including the president's plan in the federal budget. Let's take this critical step toward a clean energy economy and an end to the climate crisis.
MORE INFO
The battle to finally end America's head-in-the-sand policy on global warming has begun.
President Obama's budget would cap carbon pollution, make the big polluters pay $650 billion over 10 years, and reinvest this money in our families and our future.[1]
The hitch? The Carbon Lobby -- Big Oil, King Coal and other giant emitters of greenhouse gases -- has hired more than 2000 lobbyists. That's almost four lobbyists for every member of Congress.[2]
Needless to say, the president can't win this one alone. He needs you, me and thousands of people like us to help overcome the Carbon Lobby and unleash the power of a clean energy economy. You can take the first step by signing our petition right now.
Key committees in Congress are debating whether to keep the president's plan in the next federal budget, or kill it.[3]
This is an absolutely critical moment for President Obama's plan to cap global warming pollution and repower America with wind, solar and other clean energy technologies of the future.
Our Washington DC staff were at the White House Monday as President Obama talked about the budget and outlined his vision for investing in the "clean energy future" and rebuilding the economy by fighting global warming. It was inspiring and smart. But if the president's plan fails to survive the budget process, it'll be a major setback in winning the global warming legislation we need this year. Meanwhile, the scientists keep warning us that we're running out of time[4] and that even the president's plan may not be enough. Click here to keep the president's carbon cap alive.
I hope you join us in taking action now. If we want to leave our children and grandchildren a livable planet, we can't let the Carbon Lobby stop us, no matter how many hired guns they bring in for the fight.

1. The president's proposal would limit carbon emissions, require polluters to pay for their emissions through market-based auctions, invest some of the money in clean energy, and return most of it to taxpayers. For everyday that they protest Obama should increase their pay out amount. Maybe then they will stop trying to weasel out of what they rightly owe.

I made this pledge back in 1969. It is unacceptable to my mind that NOTHING has been done in 4 decades!!!!! CORPORATE GREED AND CORRUPTION...INGNORANCE,APATHY,PERSONAL SELFISHNESS........

This is probably the most crucial issue we are facing in our world today. Scientists have proven that global warming will affect us all quite drastically if we don't take action now. The lobbyist's issues are short-term and although they may be legitimate, they certainly do not take precedent over the more looming issue of the health of our planet, and the future of our (my) children. I am truly relieved that Obama has decided to go to Copenhagen (even though for a brief period) because he, and only he, can lead the world in this pressing issue.

Yes, we need to stop this lobbying. We need much more regulation on all kinds of lobbying. In High School we studied US history, the government was to be a Government FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE. We The People, is ALL of us, not just the filthy rich. So far, the lobbiests have succeeded in blocking healthcare that is universally affordable. It needs to be about ALL OF US, not just about money. We need to return to having a government FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE; not a thing where rich can buy special privileges. Rich corporations can hire lobbiests to afford them the privilege of destroying our economy.
One more favored cover song is "Slower Than Guns" by the Iron Butterfly. I am also working on an original with thoughts donated by my mom, "Every Day Should Be Mother's Day for Mother Earth."
