Remind President Obama what he promised gays and lesbians

The Issue

In October 2009, President Obama stood before 3000 people at the annual HRC Gala in Washington DC, and before millions on C-Span, and vowed to support LGBT equality by ending Don't Ask Don't Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act.

In that same speech, the President called on gays and lesbians to partner with him in these efforts and to hold him accountable for these promises.

Send President Obama the message that we are looking to him to lead in these areas. The repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell is now being discussed, but the process of actually finalizing that change of policy requires much more work and support from the White House. We are still waiting for a clear call to end Defense of Marriage.

One of the differences between marriage for gays and marriage for heterosexuals is that heterosexuals do not have to spend their first year of marriage fighting to retain their rights.
