Reforestation to Stop Global Warming
Reforestation to Stop Global Warming
The Issue
Reforestation fixes carbon, increases aquifer recharge, and reduces soil erosion. Deforestation has been a major cause for the increased rate of global warming, carbon emissions, and the extincion of many plant and animal species. Trees and plants play an important role as climate stabilizers by removing heat-trapping greenhouse gases (including water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone) from the air and holding them in their leaves, roots, wood and soil.
If the rainforests continue to vanish at their current rate, they could be totally wiped out as functioning ecosystems within 100 years!
