Ask your state representatives to support renewable energy by 2020.

Support Clean Renewable Energy Today!

A solid commitment to renewable energy will improve air quality, especially in low-income communities of color that today breathes the pollution from nearby power plants. It will also help our economy by moving us away from fossil fuels, which fluctuate in price and will likely become more expensive in the future, and by creating good green collar jobs.

Please take a minute now to write Gov. Schwarzenegger, and your state Assembly and Senate representatives, urging them to pass SB 14 and AB 64, setting our renewable electricity standard at 33% by 2020.

Personalize your email if possible. You can find more information about these bills here.

Support Clean Renewable Energy Today!

Dear Representative

As the renewable energy bills move through the legislative process, please make sure they include these provisions:

- An unwavering floor of 33% by 2020, applying to all utilities in the state.

- A definition of "renewable energy" that doesn't include technologies that can inflict environmental damage, such as large hydroelectric dams or trash incinerators.

- Strong enforcement provisions that don't allow delays in the 33% by 2020 mandate.

- No loopholes, no vague escape clauses such as "good faith" or "commercially reasonable efforts," and no "alternative compliance payments."

- Priority to in-state and local renewable energy generation.

- A feed-in-tariff program with standard 20-year-plus Green Energy contracts that guarantee reasonable cost recovery plus profit for anyone selling renewable power to utilities.

- Preserve local permitting authority over renewable power plants and encourage the use of existing transmission rights of way whenever possible.

- Provide green jobs and foster healthy economic development in our state, fairly shared with low-income and/or environmentally damaged communities.

I'm counting on you to help save our planet from the harm of global warming, and to uphold the California tradition of setting an excellent environmental example for our country and the world.

"In Arizona, we should already be using much more solar power than we are. We are literally bathed in free energy more than 300 days a year, and yet we continue to spew pollution into our children's skies and create nuclear waste for them to try to safeguard and clean up. It's past time to get this done. We are watching, and we expect better from our government. We need the new technologies and the jobs. Clean energy is a win-win while coal and oil are lose-lose. The choice is clear and our children will know whether we loved them enough to do the right things for their future. Let's get busy doing the Right things now!"
