Save Railway House Beaconsfield

Save Railway House Beaconsfield
The issue
Railway House in Beaconsfield was built in 1888 by Charles Nott. It is a significant historic building located near the Beaconsfield Railway Station. It is also known as the Station Master’s Residence. It is being acquired by the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project and will be demolished to make way for the bridge over the railway.
We want to save this house and preserve it for future generations, too many historic buildings have been lost in Beaconsfield in recent years. It has been faithfully renovated to preserve and showcase the features of the era in which it was built and has a heritage overlay.
We are members of the Beaconsfield community who want to save this house for Beaconsfield and future generations. It has a long history and connection to the Beaconsfield Station back when the station was a busy transport hub dropping off passengers and goods for over one hundred years, through the wars and settlement of the area. It was used briefly as a Ladies College and a holiday home. The Bunya pine in front of the house is part of the original and is a significant tree. The Cardinia Creek Wetlands abutt the proposed roadway and will be seriously impacted by construction and use.
We are asking the elected officials of the Victorian Government, and Cardinia Council, to reconsider their intention to acquire and demolish the Railway House and rethink the project in light of community concerns. Beaconsfield is proud of its heritage and we have lost many significant buildings due to “development”.
