Stop St. Thomas from tearing down Cretin Hall

The Issue

The University of St. Thomas wants to tear down Cretin Hall to make way for a new hockey arena. Cretin Hall was built in 1894 by architect Cass Gilbert. Gilbert also designed the Minnesota Capitol, the US Supreme Court building, among many others. He is a renowned architect and Cretin Hall is historic.

Despite the excitement of a new arena on campus, Cretin Hall should not be torn down. UST can find a different location for the arena. We must act now to prevent this from happening and to preserve the historic nature of South Campus. Cretin is one of the oldest buildings on campus and must remain standing at all costs.

To be clear, the addition of a hockey and basketball arena on campus is exciting. However, another location can be chosen for the arena that does not involve tearing down Cretin Hall.
