The issue

BABBINGUR MIA MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICE IS AT RISK

Please sign this petition calling on the Australian Government Minister for Health to urgently act.

In December 2025, the Australian Government Department of Health advised that funding for Babbingur Mia will cease on 30 June 2026. If this decision is not reversed, a vital Aboriginal‑led maternal and child health service will be forced to close.

For more than 12 years, Babbingur Mia has delivered culturally safe care to Aboriginal families across Rockingham, Kwinana and Baldivis proudly led by 8 Aboriginal health professionals providing trusted care to women, babies and children.

In the past 18 months, Babbingur Mia has delivered: 772 GP appointments,  531 women’s health checks/pathology services/infusions, 266 antenatal visits for 47 births, 120 child health checks and 525 immunisations.

These outcomes represent real impact — healthier mothers, healthier babies, and stronger families.

On 25 February, Babbingur Mia reached a major milestone by successfully registering as an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), formal recognition of its strong governance, accountability, and leadership by community.

Babbingur Mia is closing the gap and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal mothers and children. Losing this service would have serious and lasting impacts on families who rely on culturally safe care.

WHEN ABORIGINAL FAMILIES LOSE CULTURALLY SAFE CARE, THE GAP WIDENS

The community cannot afford to lose Babbingur Mia.

We call on the Australian Government to:

Reverse the decision to cease funding, and
Commit to ongoing, sustainable funding for Babbingur Mia Maternal and Child Health Service.

Help us help the community. Please sign and share this petition today.
