There is a discrepancy on how the Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL or covid sick pay) legislation in the state of California is written. The daily wage caps are designed for an 8 hour x 5 day work week thus for anyone working long shifts- such as nurses on the front lines of Covid- we are disproportionately covered by the program and our wages are cut. Someone making the exact same wages but working 8 hour days gets paid in full. There is no clear acknowledgment in the legislation for people working alternative work schedules - like 12 hour shift nurses throughout the state, among others. Nurses should expect to be protected with our increased exposure to covid. There are holes in the legislation and it is disproportionally affecting us being paid appropriately.

This campaign is to gain support by those affected and raise awareness to Governor Newsom on how it is affecting nurses, frontline workers, and anyone working alternative schedules.
