Say NO to the Campground - Preserve Scots Bay

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are appealing to the Municipal Council of the County of Kings to reject Municipal Development Agreement Application File #21-25 wherein the owners of a 96 acre parcel of land in the middle of Scots Bay (PID 55014534) plan to develop a large-scale privately owned campground. We implore the Municipality of the County of Kings and the Provincial government to stop this development from happening.

We believe the proposed development agreement and subsequent development will:

  • create increased and undesired noise, light and garbage pollution
  • diminish and contaminate the existing water table
  • increase traffic congestion on the road and increase hazards at a precarious turn in Highway 358 - which already sees many thousands of visitors each year
  • pose serious security and safety issues in the community

We believe that a campground which repurposes active agricultural land directly bordering a commercial poultry farm will create a hazardous situation for livestock and humans alike.

We believe the tourist development of active agricultural land is in conflict with the Municipal Planning Strategy’s intent to protect agricultural lands and preserve rural areas outside of growth centres.

We believe this proposed campground will increase human pressures and damage the fragile ecosystem of the tidal salt marshes - home to a dwindling population of migratory shore birds, over-wintering eel, spawning fish, and nesting waterfowl.

Although the community has supported development efforts in the past, we believe there is no benefit to the community from this type of private development, as none has been discussed.

We believe the Campground will adversely affect the community of Scots Bay. Therefore, we ask that you support the local community by not approving this development agreement application. Thank-you.
