End Sales of Israeli Products in Manitoba Liquor Marts
End Sales of Israeli Products in Manitoba Liquor Marts
The Issue
We the undersigned call on Glen Simard, Minister for Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, as well as Gerry Sul, the President of the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation, and Wab Kinew, the Premier of Manitoba, to immediately terminate the sale of any and all Product of Israel wines and other Israeli products from any and all Manitoba Liquor Marts across the province. We also ask that the any and all Product of Israel wines and other products be removed from online Manitoba Liquor Mart sales.
In 2022, Manitoba Liquor Marts removed all Russian products from their store shelves in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It is incumbent upon the Government of Manitoba as well as Liquor and Lotteries to take the same steps now and stand against Israeli Genocide.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have killed close to 40,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Women and children make up the majority of those killed and injured, meaning over 13,000 children and over 9,000 women have been killed. More than 75,000 Palestinian civilians have been wounded. Furthermore, 42% of Palestinians have been killed in so-called “safe zones” where they were instructed to flee by the Israeli military.
On March 11, 2024, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew issued a letter calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, yet Israeli wines continue to line Manitoba store shelves—as Israel continues to commit a live-streamed genocide in Gaza.
The UN Security Council also recently voted overwhelming for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, yet Israeli violence continues to this day and Israel is planning an imminent ground invasion of Rafah, in southern Gaza, where over 1 million Palestinians are currently taking refuge.
We continue to witness a genocide unfolding in Gaza in real time and therefore we cannot continue this “business as usual” approach with the State of Israel by continuing to carry Israeli products on Manitoba Liquor Mart store shelves.
We ask that Manitoba leaders stand on the right side of history and immediately remove these products from Manitoba Liquor Mart shelves and cease online sales as well. Manitoba Liquor Marts must not subsidize the Israeli economy by continuing to sell Israeli wines while the State of Israel continues to commit Genocide in Gaza and violate international laws with impunity.
