We are told we are "fighting a war" against the coronavirus. In wars the troops often receive a service medal. In some non war situations members of frontline organisations receive a service medal as the police did for the London Olympics. My daughter is a Geriatrics registrar with daily stories of service way beyond what is expected. At the very least, and for very little  cost, this service can be acknowledged with a specially struck medal awarded to all NHS staff as a thank you from the nation.
