The Issue

The system is truly broken. Our President is from a tribal community and yet our tribal women are not safe. Sign now to demand arrests!

More than 60 days after a mob stripped, paraded and sexually assaulted two women from the Kuki tribe in Manipur, the guilty are still roaming free.

A despicable video of the horrifying incident has gone viral. This tragedy took place more than 60 days ago in B Phainom village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur but the rest of India was clueless because the police did not make arrests, the media did not report and every single member of the centre and state governments remained silent. The system is truly broken! Sign now

The viral video has shaken the collective consciousness of most citizens, much like the Nirbhaya case did 11 years ago. #SaveManipur is trending on Twitter. Because of this only now has the government machinery woken up.

We, a group of women change leaders, from across India are outraged and demand justice.

Sign our petition demanding

  • immediate arrests without bail of the perpetrators
  • justice through fast-track court
  • enquiry and punishment of law enforcement officials who failed to perform their duty
  • public apologies and explanations from the Police chief, Chief Minister, Prime Minister, Union Ministers for Law and Women & Child Development for their long silence
  • Immediately provide safety and security for the Kuki community and to stop the ethnic cleansing.

Additionally, we appeal to

  • President Draupadi Murmu to convene a Special Joint Session of Parliament, making a strong statement condemning the incident, and to initiate action.
  • Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud  to ensure speedy justice
We are grateful to the CJI for issuing a stern statement, which he ended by saying, “If the government does not act, we will.” The Supreme Court has given the Centre and Manipur government time until next Friday to take action and report back.

URGENCY, SIGN BEFORE FRIDAY HEARING
Friends, we want this petition to be a show of strength of public support for justice for the two women. Please sign and share this petition widely if you share our sense of remorse and anger. We wish to reach 1 lakh signatures before the matter comes up in the Supreme Court.

It’s high time we stand with our fellow Indians in Manipur who have been facing ethnic violence for over months. 160 people have reportedly been killed and thousands have been displaced. It won't stop, if we remain silent. #ArrestManipurMob #NoBailForMob
