I'm all about bikes, bike helmets, dogs and volunteering.
I want to visit my friend in her nursing home conveniently and frequently
I have been visiting my friend in a nearby nursing home in Chicago at least weekly for 24 years. She was hit by a car in 1992 and has been there ever since. Allowing me to bring my bike inside the building makes it easy to drop in so frequently. Her other friends don't come unless we make a birthday or holiday party. I'm there every week. The new Director of Customer Experience Enrique Jiminez and his sidekick Felix threatened to call the police if I did not remove my bike from the building immediately, sacrificing my time with my friend entirely as I had the bike loaded with things I could not lock outside or carry inside without the bike. They offered to help me carry my things upstairs for me the next time I come, but when I tested them on it they backed off. They would only carry up the few small items I had for Barbara. There's no way i'm going to leave my personal items on the bike outdoors, even on their bike rack at the far end of the parking lot. The next time I came with a friend who carried a floral centerpiece 5 blocks walking from my house to the nursing home to avoid any confrontation. But I want to return to the practice of rolling in my bike with a houseplant, a toy and whatever I think will amuse her more than watching Channel 4 all day and night. She cannot speak and communicates with an alphabet chart. It's time consuming and most of the staff don't have the patience to talk with her. Please tell the new management at Symphony Pan that we want to hear music, not threats when we come.
